Here’s a toast to a brand new year full of possibilities

Even in as little as one year, 2009 has seen some amazing breakthroughs in the technology and communications industries. The following lists just a few of these innovations:

  • Palm Pre – its operating system builds in software for more social and messaging services than any other phone
  • Microsoft Project Natal – a step up from Wii in home entertainment where your movements and voice control the game
  • NASA’s Kepler Space Telescope – a probe seeking out planets much like our own in distant star systems

By the looks of what is in the works, 2010 will introduce at least as many advancements for the world at large.

But wait… maybe 2010 will go above and beyond the “world at large” considering the number of civilians who are flying into outer space. People who have already paid to go into space include:

  1. American multi millionaire Dennis Tito (who paid $20M, 2001)
  2. South African web entrepreneur Mark Shuttleworth (2002)
  3. Iranian-American business woman Anousheh Ansari (2006)

Soon to follow will be Google’s founder Sergey Brin; plus another 200 passengers in Sir Richard Branson’s latest endeavour of Virgin Group spaceship. This last set of space travelers will be going at a cost of only $200,000 per person – a mere 10% of the original cost.

When it comes to traveling and or creating the next award winning piece of technology, the sky is no longer the limit – it seems the only boundaries are your imagination.
